Presentations & Workshops

Presentations

Presentations and workshops are an important part of what I do because I enjoy sharing my knowledge and love of historical clothing with the public.  My presentations have been very well received and are centered around the display of original and/or reproduction clothing as well as images of original garments, period photographs, and fashion plates.

Past presentations have included a variety of subjects for a wide range of audiences including living historians and reenacting organizations, museum staff and docents, school groups, residents of retirement homes, and the general public.  Presentations can be tailored to the audience, interest level, or specific interpretive needs.  I’m always open to researching and preparing new presentations.  Previous presentation topics include:

  • Winter Past Times of the 1860s
  • Women’s Clothing of the Victorian Era
  • Women’s Dress in Early Pennsylvania
  • Orientalism in the Victorian Era
  • Tableaux Vivant: Living Pictures in the Civil War Era
  • Wheatland: The Home of First Lady Harriet Lane

Presentations are available for groups of all sizes. Prices vary based on size of group and travel distance to your location. Please contact Lindsey for a price quote.

Workshops

Workshops are another important aspect of my business. I would be happy to discuss hosting a workshop on a topic of your choice. Currently the workshops I offer are:

  • Hats and Headwear of the Civil War Era.  This workshop includes a presentation component which includes images of period headwear and information on appropriate styles and trim. It focuses mainly on Hats for younger women. The main part of the program is devoted to shaping and trimming a period correct hat to be used for reenacting. This program is best for younger women and girls who are interested in making hats appropriate to the years 1855-1865. Please contact Lindsey for a price quote based on number of participants, location, and materials.
  • Bonnets of the 1860s.  Learn about fashionable bonnet styles and trimming options from the 1860s by viewing images of originals. All participants will be asked to order a period correct straw bonnet form from a given source and participants will be walked through the steps of trimming their bonnets at the workshop. Participants will be taught how to line their bonnet form, attach a curtain to the back, trim the outside and inside of the bonnet in an authentic manner, and attach ribbon ties. Supplies for trimming can be provided or participants can be given a list of necessary supplies to purchase in advance. Please contact Lindsey for a price quote based on number of participants, location and materials.
